Where can I buy these windows?
Are these windows built from scratch (custom frame, glass cut to size)? This is exactly what I need to add some light for a window-less bedroom in my condo.
So these are what we refer to as "direct set" transoms. That is, the glass is set directly into the jamb as New Urban Home Builders explained. The advantage of this setup is that you get more glass than a standard transom (which has a stile and rail perimeter). You can make them onsite
in a "direct set" configuration. As shown they are $155 each including the jamb. You can see it here: http://goo.gl/eDlwml. You can also get our transoms in a variety of glass like seeded, antique or wavy.

We don't sell the doors (you can get those from Home Depot or Lowes), but you can get the transoms from us. This is model TR-1, and you can see it at http://goo.gl/krtWmb.

Entry foyer with transoms over openings
This is the foyer of a small cape that we renovated. By adding the transom windows above the cased openings we made the space feel larger, lighter and more open. Photo by Nancy Hill.
What is the size of transoms? I have lower ceilings and I'm adding a wall I would like the opening to have a transom but not sure if 8" transom by 56" would be too narrow.
I agree, both transoms appear to be 8" or so. We build this model (TR-1) all the way down to 6" as necessary. Also notice how the crown is well integrated into the RB-3 type casing to maximize the size of the transom. Good job. See this model at http://goo.gl/krtWmb.
Transoms for foyer and LR openings
Upon entering this Connecticut home, you are greeted by doorways with transom windows on either side. They make the space feel larger, lighter and more open.

I love the archway...how high are the ceilings and the transom?
For 10 ft ceilings we usually recommend 16" transoms if you have 101" of clear height. The transom shown here is a little less than 16", probably 14". Still looks good though. It is our model TR-1. You can see it here: http://goo.gl/krtWmb.

Transom windows pair perfectly with other special architectural features. In this dining room, crown molding, wainscoting, a built-in buffet and a seven-lite transom window combine to create a custom space.

That looks like a new version of leaded glass windows common in craftsman bungalows. I have them in my house built in 1910. This page shows a similar window in a 1920 house: htt

Do you have any knowledge of how high that transom is? I am considering one in my house but having trouble. All I have room for is a 12 inch rough opening transom. Will that look small?
