I'm looking to do something very similar but every fireplace I find has a minimum clearance of 36" above the fireplace before any combustible material can be installed. Doesn't your shelving behind the TV (and the TV itself)

Nothing on mantel under TV. Half photos with TV over fireplace have nothing under TV. Note small cabinet to right of TV and how it is tied into the space.
