I have one. Please tell me how and when to prune. A friend said I should cut way back in early spring. Is this right? It gets a lot of brown fronds that need to be cut out every year, but when is best?

Hi nettiez -- prune western sword fern right as you see the first new, bright green growth emerging, some time between Feb and April, depending on where you live. Simply cut out all of the previous year's dark green, tattered foliage, right down to the base (the cinnamon-brown nub where the new croziers emerge). The plant will be beautifully refreshed for a new season.

Rustic is not for me but I like this look. I'm not a big fan of mirrors but have found them necessary in spaces needing more light or to add depth to a small space.

Like barn doors. Hate barn doors with mirrors.

Thank you! It's not a bad looking house (although I think you've probably seen it in its recent state), but I have such high hopes for improving it :)

I'd definitely like to replace the garage door with something not so plain. It will probably need replacing soon anyway. I believe it's original to the house - solid wood! We had someone come out and do some work on it not too long after purchased the house, which increased its life span, but it won't last forever.

It's an excellent looking house with amazing potential. Even just some minor mods to the landscaping (including approach to the entry) and some landscape lighting would change the feel.
