No. Absolutely NOT. Major renovations were and still are necessary. Biggest mistake of our married life. It's ten years in and we still are working on the place. 1920's Farmhouse has turned me gray. Avid Diyers we might be, but now in our 50's and cannot handle it. I believe the house will never be really livable. ( insert sad face here ). BIG Mistake.

I love our house so much - it is a massive amount of work remodeling and getting the garden manageable though, so sometimes I hope to myself that by the time we retire we don't have to start replacing stuff all over again. Now that I see how wonderful it is to live in a space we helped design, it would be hard to go back to living in a more anonymous space. As I cook and clean and garden I appreciate the door knobs, the cabinets, the flooring, appliances, toilet flusher, all the little things we painstakingly picked out. Makes me really happy!
