Unfortunately, I live on the second floor. I've got huge windows, and USED TO have a view of tall sycamore and maple trees out the windows. I loved watching them come into leaf in the spring; enjoyed the shade in the summer (even though it didn't reach my windows - they grew every year and there was hope); appreciated how they screened the glare from the large security lights in the neighboring schoolyard; relished the changing colors in autumn and then watched for that one, last valiant leaf holding on into winter before the trees turned to stark black sculptures against the grey skies...

And then one day, despite promises that nothing would be done to them, the trees were simply cut down leaving a sun-baked parking lot, no shade for the kids or the cars, and security lights glaring right into my bedroom windows.

There's not a thing I can do to change the view outside, so the windowsills inside are full of plants of various heights. I've got to have a view of something green - and brutalist green graffiti on the school next door doesn't cut it.

A wonderful relaxed home with a lot of playful elegance. A good relationship between the client and designer always turns out well, and fortunately they both had good taste. I especially loved the kitchen and both bathrooms.

@ethiope, I asked the same question during the interview - it's very sad, but I'm glad the kitty's memory is being appreciated in this story!
