Thank you so much.We do have film on the windows but it's about 12 yrs. old and I don't know how much UV protection we're getting, if any. Also, if we opt for the most opened weave in sun shades ,is the UV protection as good, when the blinds are closed?

The higher the % of openness the lower % of protection is the rule of thumb for shades. Each manufacturer should be able to provide performance data.

12 year old window film is likely not working that well any more. A few brands like Vista and Llumar will keep looking and performing for decades. The UV performance can be tested, contacting a local professional is your best bet. Www.vista-films.com.

Good luck!

Thank you. My living room walk out to a balcony has a spectacular view and a SW exposure. So I want as much UV protection as possible for my dark, hardwood floors , & don't want to blacken out the room during the day. My concern with silhouettes is the dust.
Any suggestions. Thinking venitians but they're hard looking in a living room. Only have 41/2'' between window and crown moulding.

Thanks again. There presently is a film on the windows that the previous condo owners put on, but it's about 12 years old. Is there any way of knowing or testing to see if it's UV protected. On a sunny day, the sun does fully come into the living room, but there's not much heat given off. Also, are you located in Toronto? No nighttime privacy is required as we're on the 29th floor ,with nothing around us.

The wooden blinds are from Graber. They only protect when closed.

Check out the new shade called Vision Shades. Fabric shades which allow you to control light, UV protection and privacy. The Milan fabric would look beatuiful. You can see these at http://www.solar-screen-shades.com
