These rooms although very attractive seem cold and sterile. And what happened to color? Everything you see is white or beige or neutral pastels. I so enjoy color, textures and pattern, but everywhere you look now are white sofa's, beige rugs and neutral colors. I don't think pets or kids would work well in these rooms. Not realistic.

what is so attractive about a pile of books that are "decorative" and cant be read because a bowl of flowers is sitting on them? so what? you dont like to read but like giving the impression that you do? are the books books that you have read and then bought fancy copies of that cant be read but decorate your house while you keep the real books stuffed away in some drawer somewhere?
decorative books are the most ridiculous and money wasting decorative idea ever. not to mention the trees you killed and cows you killed for your set of five hardbound leather decorative books. also the chemical waste from leather dyes and treatments.

OK. Anyone used Farrow & Ball? I'm testing some of their paint colours on my home's walls and the consistency and depth of pigment of their paints is quite unique.

Urban Painting...thanks for the validation! I kind of wondered about that (people needing to spend more to feel better). Use that to your advantage and charge them more if it helps! I have been using Behr for many years and have always had good results, literally selling homes based on the way they were painted. Have never seen a reason to need to pay more. I'm really surprised by the negative comments on here about Behr paints. I have to assume it's because they aren't applying it properly. I have three young kids and the only issues I've had is how to keep their grime off the walls to begin with! Btw...almost moved to Austin a few years ago, beautiful area!

I love my dark floors. I've mixed cherry wood with the dark floor. Lots of coral and white makes it pop!

Yep, I have dark brown leather furniture in the den and really want to add some color and "life" to the room. This was a great option for Texas but now that we're in Florida; I need to brighten things up. I hope more of you will add pics of your "leather" rooms. I need inspiration!

E Latimer-agree with area rug comments. I would move ottoman to another area in the room ( maybe even remove it) to break up "the leather" look. Get an interesting coffee table to add texture and dimension to the room.

i am trying to pick how dark my tint should be. I have a western exposure and a lot of glass, so I originally thought I should get the darkest-15 Night Vision by 3M. But as I look at the sample, my landscaping looks so much better through the 25. the dealer tells me that the damage blocking between the two is not that significant and to choose the one I like the most. I am concerned that it will be like most things I have done-when making the moderate choice I always wish later that I had done more. Any thoughts?

Deirdre - why don't you pay to install one of each side by side on two windows. Sit on it a few days.

I agree the heat savings is not that significant, and would personally go for the slightly less heat blockage but have the view you will enjoy the most.

We live in an older home without A/C, so we leave our windows open at night to cool off. Since our bedroom has five! doors, furniture tends to be under the double hung windows, making them difficult to access to open and close. The room with the bed in the middle of the windows made me think of that.

I solved the small-bedroom problem in my 100-year-plus central-stair colonial by hunting down an antique 3/4 spool bed. Love it!
