Antique white if you have a more traditional decor.

Personally, I would paint the ceilings a 50% reduction of the wall colors. Then the antique white trim and crown molding pops in contrast.

Cheery and gray are mutually exclusive.

Behr will match sw colors - a warm greige is opposite gray with a blue undertone. Greige grays have green to warm them up and appear beige. Based on the situation, I can't advise blue - here is a warm gray that sounds like it would go with your taupe and be a great backdrop for him. A spray paint can of orange for a few select pops of color - a lamp, a trash can, maybe an initial for a wall shelf . . that is the place for orange in a boys room.

Test sw useful gray http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW7050-useful-gray/
behr will color match it for you . . .

There is some blue that I was trying to pull out. I think the blue is just too bright, maybe more of a navy?

I like the idea of Romans on the dr window but on the sliders, I would hang two panels. One idea for your color scheme is go with a textured (linen like) fabric in a color close to the wall color but trim the Romans and the panels with a thick (at least 2") wide braid, multi-colored with red, blue and yellow. There are lots available, calico corners has a great selection. The trim on the panels would be placed vertically about 1" from the leading edge. On the Romans, the trim could also be placed vertically on both outside edges, again about 1" in from the edge.

Newhouse, nice rug. I like the blue that's in the middle of the blue flower that's on the left of the photo you sent. On my screen it looks like a dusty blue with a tinge of green In it.

The other option is to use picture ledges. It's faster and easier to make changes as you go.

How about a lighter version of the wall color!
