Hey guys, check out this article:

I want to do something similar. The article, very rightly, mentions big concerns about running the tub drain and overflow through the shower pan (you have to cut through the shower pan and it's difficult to keep watertight..); unfortunately, it doesn't give any advice or guidance on how to do this correctly.
I'm looking for help on how to do this correctly…
Make sense?

The key to this install is working with a waterproofing membrane that can be affected to the waste outlet for the tub. I make custom flashings from Noble Company's NobleSeal TS and NobleDeck for this.

Then a slit tweak to a no hub fitting and your good to go.

Properly prepared you can still preform the flood test with the fixtures or no hub fitting in place.

If you visit http://www.no-curb.com you can make a blog site donation (info top left corner) and I'll call you back with some of the design details I use for this look.

Good Luck.

This shower tub combo was part of a large barrier free shower build here in Edgemount, North Vancouver

Entire room flood tested (bathtub area and shower)

In this project we needed to flash around the tub's waste outlet and the tub filler.

We do fiberglass for the shower pan upand g up the wall several inches so that no matter what it won't leak. Smells really bad for a few days though. Then the rest of the backing is as per usual. Shower pans and techniques form Home Depot just are not reliable in the long run.

Thank you for your question Dave. I believe in this case the project architect, Tom McElroy (http://mcelroyarch.com/) could help you, and if not, then he can direct you to the project contractor, Miller Development. When asking about this shower, reference the San Francisco "Bungalow Update" project. Good Luck!

Considering this installation, but worried about maintaining waterproof membrane.. S. Thomas Kutch, you address the importance of maintaining waterproof membrane when installing a tub in a shower… can you tell me more about how to do that?

My first thought was not so much the extra cleaning, etc., but that the "shower" part would have to be pretty large to avoid either bumping into the tub constantly or falling in, depending on the installation...and this would rather defeat the whole space-saving concept.
