a note of caution, most baking soda contains aluminum, which is linked to Alzheimer's, so I would say best to purchase the aluminum free variety at a health food store before ingesting or sprinkling all over your house

I teach home ec ( now called Culinary) and always tell my students to use baking soda or salt on a grease fire. One student actually saved his friend's house (and friend) from burning because he remembered that informationb from class!

Dogs, kids and husbands (in that order) are the biggest mess-makers in a home. Dogs are not terribly trainable, with kids (especially if they are girls) there is some hope of getting them to join in the task of keeping things orderly (not very good at cleaning, unfortunately) and husbands, depending on their disposition, are either neater than the wife or greatly sloppier. These are great suggestions but the greatest burden will always fall on the lady of the house for keeping things orderly and clean. Oh well, that's likely why we live longer than hubby--all the exercise from cleaning and straightening. No kidding--it uses up a LOT of calories (and you wondered why you were always so tired when your kids were young!)

My husband is a neatnik and for the first ten years of our marriage, drove me crazy with his "fussiness". Now that he is old (we've been married for 38 years), he's the sloppy one (he can't see that well anymore--or, at least, that's the excuse he gives lol) and I'm neater than he is.
