I'm busy with my son's small bedroom. We decided to not go with a bed in a frame / bed that comes with a frame and headboard. Instead we just have a regular bed base with a mattress, and a headboard. This way there's nothing hard to bump into when negotiating around the bed.

I was going to order the headboard today, just a flat padded leather item, but since reading the article, I might instead custom make a headboard with shelving. We are still waiting for closets to be installed, I'll post a pic when we r done.

Did our dining room trim and doors in black against linen colored walls. I've always loved Black & Tan.

dunedingirl, from baretta11, thankyou for your comments.
I have got allot out of reading all the posts on black accents.
I do love black but would never have considered using it indoors in a dramatic or full on way, but I have already said that I absolutely love the pics attached to this forum.
All the ideas are so inspiring and after reading your post, I'm surprised that black wouldn't look overdone in a room with normal ceiling heights but I think what I have learned from people who have already used black successfully, is that it's good to start with a little and give yourself time to see what if anything else could be added to the scheme.
Also, I think once anyone uses dark colours, they must balance.
I have seen some ghastly rooms painted entirely navy blue or red and I think strong colours are accents mainly, I feel personally.
Do you have any photo's you could post of your handywork??
Cheers,
Barbara

mirador...I agree with you...will most likely leave the bedroom/bathroom doors white. Also basement door and laundry room door. With both of those at the end of steps or hallway, it would appear more open if black. I think doors with windows in them have a better chance of avoiding this feeling. I do love my pantry door and it may be enough for me right now.

As far as overnight guests walking into closed black doors I would leave the interior side white unless it truly compliments the bedroom décor. Frankly, if I had overnight guest wandering my home in the dark, I would question what they were doing? Turn on a light in your bedroom and find your way from there, or carry a small flashlight in your bag so you can light your way. Don't be creeping around in the dark.

cjg333-you should try some of those snazzy acrylic wine glasses, especially the stemless variety, because they are a bit more stable on a picnic blanket. Here is one from the Houzz marketplace: Room Essentials™ Acrylic Stemless Wine Glass or stem glasses: Laela Acrylic Wine Glass. Thank you for the great recipes Maria! I want to try both!
