@stillamistry_ We have a second home in France that is in the final 10% of complete renovation. It is on a plot carved out of an existing farm 50 years ago, but it is located on the fringe of a town of 2,500, so although we have cows grazing next to us, it is not completely rural. Houses here tend to have "abris voiture" or car shelters as a feature and not covered porches. They are usually separate structures from the house and are done in a natural wood chalet-style (exposed rafters and joists and a tiled roof). People go more for balconies and niched terraces in medium density populated areas. The 18th-19th century farmhouses can have large garrison-style porches, but you don't really see them on modern houses even though they still have wooden shutters and window frames and other typically French features..
