I use double-edge paper painter's tape for stripes. After getting the first stripe level on each wall, cover the wall with the paper tape edge-to-edge. Remove every other strip of paper tape and have perfect stripes. I also like to stripe with a colorwash for a softer effect.

@Marilyn - the article you reference states that even the manufacturers of pressure treated wood products specifically advise against using PT products in edible gardens. Your consumption of foods grown in chemically tainted soils is at your own risk. There are many appropriate construction & landscape applications for PT wood products, but the consensus among professional gardeners is that they don't belong in vegetable gardens. Best of luck.

Just had an idea I think is amazing, what if this was built the right height to serve has also a table, with a thin long line of plants, and tree stumps as chairs. Put a removable glass or plastic border around the center growing station so bug don't crawl on your food while your eating.

If you do choose to go with a rental management company, definitely seek the advice of people that have done this before (like in the comments above). Without having a professional manage things for you, it's going to become a second job. Here's a blog post we put together on what to consider when choosing a vacation rental agent: http://elitedestinationhomes.com/vacation-rental-management/agents/

Great tips and insights! We have a vacation rental in the Poconos PA and if we had read this article when we first got it, it would have been a BIG help. We do just about everything that you have listed but that was after a lot of trial and error. I agree with the management company, one thing I'll also mention is that just because you have a management company don't think that you'll be completely hands off.

The best thing you can do is treat your vacation house as a business. Always looking for ways to improve your guest's experience. One thing that helped us a lot in the beginning is inviting people we trusted to stay at our house and asking them for their opinion of what they would change.

Thanks for the article!

Am having an Elkay ss undermount 60/40 two bowl aqua low divide installed with Cambria countertops next week. Contrary to some suggestions, am having the smaller bowl to my right with the disposal which will be next to the dishwasher due to personal work habit preferences. Thanks for the valuable input from this thread. It really helped me with my decision.

Wcummings- have you tried googling almond built in refrigerator? I think the color is pretty close to bisque. Also, maybe consider a fridge that will accept panels that look like your cabinets....
We had a black cast iron sink in our house for 8 yrs. I HATED it! It always looked dirty. We're renting a house right now ( until our forever home is built :) and it has a white cast iron sink. Pretty beat up. But I bleach it for an hour every couple of weeks and all the stains are gone.
