Here is heather's comments. After reviewing your images, I would group them in three categories:
Fireplaces that have the stone all the way to the ceiling. This is an option for you the downside would be that you would have to modify your crown molding to jog around the stone build out. The other dilemma is that many of the fire places do not have mantel or have a simple plank for a mantel
Plain boxed matels with stone facade on all the same plane on the fireplace front.
Plain boxed matels with stone facade on two planes, meaning there is a step in close to the fireplace opening (not sure I am explaining this in the best way).
I prefer the all stone with the step like the first image on the second row of your link.


I've moved the assortment around so the first image on the second row is no longer valid.
