I'm very late to comment, but for #20, what kind of radio is that? The whole list is great!

Terrific piece, photos & examples! It's been my mantra for quite some time - rethink that existing space! Use every inch. I also look at it as a true definition of "green" and fight just adding more space; max out what we have. As far as putting a personality stamp on it (like a bold color), it's what makes the owner smile when they enter the room and, often times, the very thing that speaks to the next buyer rather than getting lost in milk-toast-land trying to play it safe. Again, great article by you and input and examples from others. (Here's an example of repurposing the seldom used formal dining room.)

Funny I should happen to see your article. I am continually changing and I hope improving our home. My husband is always teasing me about where everything is because its always moved around. I was recently looking for a broom closet area and then I thought why don't I move the linen to the basement and have all the cleaning stuff upstairs in one place instead of 3 or 4 different places. The linen goes to the basement to be washed anyway. Our needs change so our homes have to as we'll. thanks for the article.

A couple of tips I forgot to mention:
1) I wash &save the Styrofoam trays that meat comes in for small paint jobs. Such easy clean up. When finished just throw away the tray.

2) I use disposable paint rollers, but hate to use a new one if I have to second coat a room the next day. Just place the roller, handle and all, into a plastic bag. Wrap the end of the bag tightly around the handle and store in the refrigerator. Works like a charm.

A top quality brush (Purdy, Wooster) will allow you to get a straight line; you do need a "steady" hand, but the brushes are key. Also, not putting too much paint on the brush is critical. In my opinion Frog Tape is the best - no paint gets under tape.. again, not having too much paint on the brush when painting over the tape is the key to success. I haven't used the brush cover, but routinely wrap stretch tite around the brush to save it for the next day. It works very well. Take the author's advice and buy top quality products -brushes, rollers, paint. It makes a big difference.

Corian will scorch, I believe and it is not a natural substance. There is nothing more beautiful and durable than granite in IMHO.
