These are great kitchens. They all have their own personality, style and story. The trouble with today's designer, or gourmet kitchen is that it lacks any character, they start to all look the same. I personally, am happy to see a kitchen that looks like actual people who love and are loved occupy it. Today's version of a kitchen looks unused and like it belongs in a model home, they seem a bit cold and unyielding.

Why do people put stoves next to refrigerators? Because sometimes that is the only place it can go. I live in a 600 sq ft 1920's house with the tiny kitchen. It has tons of character and the kitchen has barely been touched in all that time. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I can relate to everyone of these kitchens. Thanks for sharing.

Love the look of that reclaimed wood. Tin tiles are also an excellent accent for ceilings, walls and backsplashes that are easy to clean and surprisingly affordable.

Agree! We recently saw a post featuring wood look tile as a backsplash and it was so different from what we're used to that it was really striking!

Thanks! It's good to know that it is "possible" to refinish parquet. I've gotten conflicting feedback from various sources. Do you mind sharing with me the approximate total cost per sq. ft? Thank you again for your information, I really appreciate it. It's a fantastic office!

I believe that it was between $3.25-$3.50 per square foot for stain and three coats of match finish top coat.

In Canada, lead-based paints are also prohibited. That aside, I prefer my tile backsplash. It adds texture to the room and is easy to clean, which I do about once every 6 months. No big deal. To each their own.

Hi Andrea, we worked with Olde Towne Builders in NOTL. But I feel I have to mention that the experience was less than positive. To their credit, they'e tried to make up for many of the errors and problems through their post-reno service and follow up, and I believe their intentions were well-placed. But casting a wider net (if in the area) might also serve you well. @eganjulie, we used Forna floating cork in Silver Birch. It's an absolutely beautiful colour and is so warm and soft, it's really served us well. It has definitely faded substantially in some areas near south-facing windows (despite triple-glazed windows), but I'm not really fussed about it. C'est la vie :) Good luck with your project!

I prefer carpet or rugs because there is less of a chance to fall and are comfortable and some of them are perfect for napping on especially if you are to tired or lazy to go on the couch a chair or your bedroom to sleep plus another handy thing is that they have lots more colors and patterns than hard floors.

Or maybe safety tested floor heaters that can't cause fires underneath the carpet or rug to create the ultimate napping floor.
