You can use old lace bedspreads or lace tablecloths for outdoor curtains if blocking the sun isn't your main design objective. Colorful sheets would offer more shade and the pattern and color possibilities are endless. Also, even easier than making grommets is buying inexpensive clip on curtain rings at discount stores. Not only can you hang anything in a matter of minutes, you can turn the top edge of your make-shift curtain as many times as you like in order to make the curtains the right length if too long, clip on the ring when you reach the proper length and you're down! No hemming!

I plan to use baby bed mattresses for inexpensive furniture cushions. Cushions with any comfort at all are expensive. Baby bed mattresses are readily available, cheap and waterproof. Perfect size for banquettes, day beds, custom swings etc. A big plus that you could just buy sheets to fit.. ( huge selection) Perhaps when my trim carpenter husband retires, we can build these things. For now, "the cobblers children have no shoes".
