marjie1059 Sometimes when we consider what to do with our homes perhaps we over-think itf and forget the real purpose of our home...like when I asked the granite warehouse person how many times people generally visit the warehouse before choosing their slab. The answer was 3, though sometimes they choose on the first visit. The funny--or horrific--thing about it is she said one woman had been there about 20 times over the course of a year and still hadn't chosen. Really?! Isn't there more to life than this?
All that to say that I guess I don't understand the idea of remodeling a room because it is "dated" or the owner is "tired" of the look. I understand (or I think I do) the importance of our living space being attractive, but when is it enough to have running water and heat and a roof and four walls? Perhaps some of the frustration I hear in some comments is from the tension between form and function. Some, like the dilemma about the sagging porch and the causes, are concerned about function and structure. They want a stable, strong porch and weren't asking about how to make it a showpiece. Others, like which white do I use on my bedroom wall, are simply taste and opinion and, in the end, are not a big deal. And maybe this will sound like sour grapes (I'm the one with the

bygeorgi I wanna hear peoples opinions . The more points of view the better....it's like art class, you create something, it gets critiqued , and you realize it ain't as great as you thought , then you do it better next time because you've seen some one else's view point.... that what I love about Houzz and in the end we are all after the same thing, beauty.
