I keep tools, etc. in baskets on shelves in my utility room. My handyman thinks this one is hilarious--my basket of round things: my tape measure, duct tape, painter's tape, packing tape, spools of string and wire, pads for under furniture, and so on. It works for me!

Here's one of my versions of effectively using up the space on a 24' wide by 2 story tall great room. There's no need to make the fireplace the focal point here especially in Florida, but it is nevertheless an integral part of the design.

timglidden, my first thought was the right right on the same wall as the fireplace. That way you could use your current furniture arrangement for watching TV, just enjoying the fire, or both. Keeping it on the same wall helps to define the area, while putting the TV where the art work is might turn the entire open plan into a TV room. That's not such a bad thing -- it all depends on how you want to use the room, and how visible you want the TV to be. For more opinions, you might post this (with more pictures) in the Advice section. You'll get a lot of tips over there!

The blue pillow really makes the blue in rug pop and looks fantastic. I would ditch the other pillows on the sofa and ad more blue.

I think the blue pillow looks nice because it pulls the bright blue out of the rug. You could pull the red out of the rug with red toss pillows.

I vote for Sydney because of the beautiful architecture. High ceiling, big window with nice view, cosy details such as fire and inviting cushions and art. Besides I was never in Sydney and would love to stay in a house like this.

Living in Houston, we have a LOT of outdoor time...and NO basements because they would flood! But, even in another location, I love being outdoors...there is just something about enjoying nature that is singularly wonderful. Nothing else can match it!

This is the first time I have felt compelled to comment on an Ideabook. The use of color in this home is gorgeous and I will be using many of these photos as inspiration in my own home. Thank you!

The big bold prints & photos, the blond woods with a few dark pieces, the elegant chairs mismatched yet getting along, EVERYTHING is so lovely. Eclectic yet uncluttered but lots of personality...how do you do it?! Completely my taste. Thanks for the inspiration & beautiful photos.
