Love this ideabook. It's very similar to flylady.net's advice. She breaks cleaning into 2, 5, and 15 minute segments that you do everyday instead of trying to do everything at once. It's really helped me not get overwhelmed by cleaning.

There is always something to do! Can't even relax during a commercial……get up and folder that laundry, go through the mail, etc., etc.

This method really works! When I was a child, practicing piano during the breaks was the only way I could get my 30 mins AND still watch every show I wanted.

That was fun! I'd love to be able to see all the styles & their write-ups so I could compare them without having to keep retaking the quiz with different answers!

It's always a little funny to me how much kitchens have changed over time. I'm sure the historic kitchens were cutting-edge at the time and used primarily by servants, but they seem so modest when compared to the granduer of the rest of the home and the extravagance of modern kitchens.

What a beautiful place! Kudos to the grandchildren for thinking to preserve it and to Heather for taking such great care of it! I love looking at all the details in historic homes. It's a shame we as a nation did not do a better job at preserving them.

We spent a week in SF in autumn 2013 before going to Northern California for a second week. In my research of things to do and places to visit I had selected the Haas-Lilienthal house as a must see and got the tour days and times off their website. I was so disappointed when arriving at the house to see that the sign in the front was completely different (and much more restricted) than tours shown on the website. Luckily we were there early enough in our stay that we, on our last day, could make one of the tours. It is a lovely home and worth your time to visit. I am currently sitting in the middle of my 1890 Victorian that is undergoing yet another phase of its renovation. While our home is much more simple than the Haas-Lilienthal, it has a bit of the same feel and I knew the moment I walked in the front door with our realtor that this was the one I would own...and less than one month later we moved in. Yes, it's quirky and yes, it needs a lot, but it is sound and on its way to being beautiful. Kudos to this family for seeing that their beloved home is preserved. Ms. Kraft seems to be the perfect person to guard it and love it. Thank you for the great article.

GSI, while I find your general tone stultifying, I've a nascent idea of a piquant response to your elegiac sagacity.
But I won't say anything, because it's wrong on so many levels.
Best regards, S*

Individual style is everything. These bedroom spaces are nothing if not elegant, some chic even. Several of them felt cold to me, though, and not particularly saying "come hither".
Houzz is idea central, and raises the bar for creative ideas for what can be done with one's space. That said, while looking at these beautiful photos and reading the text about how critical it is to have a chair in the bedroom, I look around my bedroom and think, "Maybe if I removed the bed, I could fit a chair in here".

If I had a room big enough to hold two double beds and a sitting area, it would be called the living room.

Great idea! I did something similar with an old botanical book. It's one of my favorite walls in my home.

Wonderful Ideabook with excellent ideas for economic but beautiful gallery walls!

We framed four inexpensive countryside farmer paintings to add color and a touch of whimsy to a room which would might otherwise have been too formal and stuffy given the heavy proportions and dark color of the Ming Dynasty cabinet, the Qing Dynasty bed carving which was used as the frame of the large mirror, and the dark brown 19th century Chinese martini table. The colorful farmer paintings also show up in the wall size mirror from many locations in the room, thereby doubling their effect.
