Shakuff, the light fixture does draw the eye upward.
We have a fancy chandelier in our entry that I liked, but it certainly doesn't do the same. Our beautiful high ceilings could do with some highlighting.

Our entry is not finished. On one side is our early 19th century trimeau (mirror surrounded/topped by a painting) and the other is a low bench with great frame and zebra fabric. But it doesn't have enough presence yet.
Would love to add that pond in front. Sigh...

The homeowner is clearly talented in bringing her design ideas to an old home for a modern family. Kudos to her for her vision.

I love old homes and this one has a great new family who will take care of it. Preserving the good parts, updating the parts no modern family could tolerate and giving it such gorgeous interior design is what we wish for ALL old houses. They are our heritage and this family respected that while making it their own.

Nice Murphy bed and yes, $12k is a starting price for these things. I price-checked them and I got the same quote in Canada. However, you can DIY it with a kit for substantially less.

I don't see what the cleaning fears are - our 1950's bathroom has white tile with white grout, and it just needs some Tilex a few times a year, very seldom, really. White tile with gray grout seems to be getting popular, but visually, it has a terrible checkerboard effect. I'd gladly have to spray on some cleaner every 3 months than have a checkerboard!

Hi Lisa,

Really nice bathroom and closet hall.

Can you tell us where the black stump table is from?

Thanks.

Such a great way to show how modern doesn't need to be matched with modern- think out of the box!

Progressing in my new home, incorporating over three generations' acquisitions worldwide. The first wall in the living room here. But so many textiles (mostly Guatemalan) to incorporate still.

I love incorporating travel finds in my home decor. It is always nice to remember that there is a whole wide world outside our walls.

The only one I really liked was #2, the one with the orange chairs. I think that worked because they are a soft orange. Almost everything else looked too bright. I liked the Italian cane chairs, but not in that room, which seemed to lack cohesion (IMHO).
