So...back to the drawing board. We thought we found someone to do plans for us but all he ended up doing was a rendering from the Pinterest post picture onto my house dimensions and billed us $625. We took the drawing to our local UBC and they will work up plans, materials, cut list etc for free. HOWEVER, we applied for a permit and learned that code requires porch to be 10 ft from septic tank. Well guess what; it's 21ft from house to septic cap. Which leaves not a lot of room. The porch we were looking to build was going to be 12x15 screened with a 4ft front deck and a patio off to the side. Not anymore!!! Not enough room. This is so disappointing I can't tell you. We were so looking forward to having a 3 season porch to enjoy as another room.
And I'm so sick of driving up to this facade.
As far as blending styles from inside to out....maybe, if I were planning on being in a home tour or BHG. I'd rather love my surroundings, regardless of 'form' protocol. Having said that; remember this is a builder box. We are gradually adding upgrades that favor a relaxed, casual 'crate and barrel' meets 'ikea' meets 'reclaimed'. I know, that makes no sense but I'm a nurse, not a designer of any kind.
And I still want dark grey-brown man made shake siding and agree it should be the entire house. I would add minions to windows and wide white trim. Too bad I can't find anyone to help put my vision into play.

Also, I would make the porch out of the same cedar as what is already there. I thought somehow the front and side could meet with a patio/pergola type structure.
Am I crazy????

How about a small veranda style porch?

Not sure where that septic system is but can you do a hexagon gazebo shape or go on an angle to get away from it. the wrap around walk way would look great.
