jk3b1g I believe our Katonah cabinets are"inset". We prefer the clean lines of the inset, but if you can achieve the same with a full overlay, we would consider that as well. LK

One-Stop Remodeling This house has 10' ceiling, so going to the ceiling would have been required a ladder on a rail system to access cabinets. Your house has 9' ceilings. This configuration is 8' plus the trim.
Depends on what you mean durable. Counter tops, any counter top is vulnerable. This wood one is prepared with food grad oil. If it was a true "chopping block" then it would be an end grain design. This top is not recommended to use as a cutting board, but can be used for food prep. If there are slight scratches that show up, using a fine the fine Teflon pad that comes with the maintenance kit and rubbing the food grade oil in will take the scratch out.
You can get the counter tops with a durable poly urethane type finish on it, but they are not self healing, but can be sanded and refinished if needed.
