I did my backsplash with a borrowed tile saw and no previous experience. I took my time and I am still amazed at how well it turned out.
I used Travertine tile, marble and glass. The window over the sink was originally trimmed in wood. When the counter top company was measuring we thought to ask if a window sill could be made in granite. I left the area around the window until last, because I didn't have an idea for trimming around the window. I found Travertine thresholds 36" x 2" which I used to frame the window. I am really pleased with the way it turned out.
