Wow, what a wonderful foyer. I so hope you can salvage the original wide plank flooring. Don't give up trying.

Keep the brick & put in new hardwood floors. Pecan would be nice with the brick...,

We only have a few lady bugs here, not nearly enough to kill the tons of aphids on my plants unfortunately.

I typically like to let the bugs go knowing that it's all part of the circle of life, but... my milkweed have been saturated in aphids for the past month (all along the stems, under the leaves, on the seed pods). So when I watered last, I took the hose to the aphids as well, and that seemed to do the trick. I did first check to make sure I wasn't hosing down any caterpillar larva or ladybug eggs. I still feel a little guilty about it but much better than a chemical alternative I like to tell myself.

That one picture looks like punji sticks from the Vietnam War. Holy flashback. But they also present a danger as a child or clumsy uncle could fall off that bench and impale them selves. Perhaps if they were longer, like six feet.

I agree with vadimr4. In what other colors can you seal a driveway? This may sound stupid but I would like to do ours in a reddish brown to blend with the roof and sidewalks.

Sorry professional Contractor. Here in NJ everything is expensive . I got atwo estimates. One was for powerwashing and sealing $2700 sq feet for $1650. The second was sealing only $650. My husband and I will be doing this job.

Good for you NJ. I'm in the Wash DC area and the only thing you can buy for $200 is a mediocre pair of sneakers. Cold patch the holes and cracks and seal it yourself and bank the savings for your kids' college - and as a bonus, you hold off the Scalawags.

Better Places to Stash That Soap

Love these ideas. My husband and me are in "the battle of the bar of soap" right now. I put it on his side of the sink and he puts it back on mine and so it goes every single day. That nasty bar of soap just keeps moving. That's why I prefer liquid soap.

I love the arrangement on this vanity, with the thin tray, flowers and simple soap dispenser on each side. It’s a beautiful set up for a dual sink vanity. Mandi @ Dura

Wow, Things change out there fast.........I know where this house is, I used to pass it on my way to Smoke Tree Shopping Center, Ralphs. I do hope this is a second home for these guys, It will be lovely to be there from Oct-April. We lived there year round, and had Solar Panels.......but still it was like Summer would never end and 110F is normal in August, it just is not the place to be, nor do I think it was built that way back in the 50-60's. But I must say what a almost perfect reno for Palm Springs........Trina Turk Pillows, on the Sofa, I have them too, but moved back East.........Can't afford 2 homes. Lucky guy's enjoy it while you can.

I love the transformation, but I wonder about function. Where do the grandkids kick a soccer ball around. Is there a place for the family dog to run and fetch? Can you set up a net for volleyball? So I guess if this transformation works for the family that paid (many $$$$) for it, then good, but it's wrong to say that everyone should do the same.
