Piggybacking on Potchiemagoodleberry's comment, I think modernizing the area around the dining set will make you feel differently about it. Along with different rug, light fixture, seat covering/slip cover and curtains, think about wall paper or fabric on the inside back of the hutch to add brightness and interest. Don't break up the set to sell it, just note that pieces may be purchased separately.

I vote for a two story house. The best ones should have the master suite on the first floor, just in case someone gets injured and for late in life. Children's rooms and their playroom on the 2nd floor works out great as you age and they become guest rooms. Just be sure you have a separate heating/ cooling system for each. A hot water heater on each floor is also a good idea.

We had always lived in one story homes until our current two-story. We all noticed how it isolated us from each other. Our teenage daughter was always up in her room except for dinner time and watching the occasional tv show with us. She's grown and gone and now we still end up at opposite ends of the house because my husband's office is upstairs and mine is down. On top of that factor, I fell down the stairs twice, breaking my back once and my elbow the second fall. I realized I was getting a little dizzy going down stairs, probably because of medications. We are in our upper 50s, and the stairs may well mean we have to sell sooner than we'd like. We have a main floor master, but we still want to be able to use the whole house. As for the basement, we didn't go down their for so long that we got a plumbing problem in the basement bathroom and didn't know it until the carpet was ruined. I also feel a two story house cuts you off from the outdoors. Any realtor can tell you that they have clients searching and searching for a one-story. I live in Virginia, and one-story houses are uncommon. The last neighbor to move into our neighborhood told me she had looked for a one-story in our town for two years before settling for her new house. She said they would probably still build one and move again.

All the culprits in my house are messy apart from old nagging me, I've even on purpose left a sock in the middle of the living room, nobody picked it up, it was there for 2 days till I couldn't take it no more, I nagged the 2 kids who are adults and my hubby but to no avail, they roll their eyes and say ok mum no worries, can't wait for them to move out, I will have a big party lol.

The deck looks somewhat boring, could use a today´s update - take of the Balustrade perhaps and put glas, if needed or aluminium - though don´t see much detail really - I love the garden though, you could place a seating area close to this rounds set up or even set up a Pavillon.
It looks like it has been set up carefully and does create a minimum level of maintenance - please keep this in mind before changing.

Hello. your second pic looks much better! It appears that you like traditional design with punches of more contemporary accents. I agree that that helps keep your look classy but fun. I agree with Julea Reinventing Space. Please find a tall floor lamp for the corner of the room to the right of the window. You need height there, as well as lighting. Dim rooms always seem sad.

I also agree that a small table between the 2 cream ones will give function, as well as interest, if you choose an unusual shape. I think some bling is in order to add shine.

Do add small rectangular pillows on cream chairs that have colors of cream, blue and rust.

I also agree with others' posts that thing drapes framing the window will look great! Choose grommet panels with a shiny metal finish on grommets and rod that will tie the silver together. Also, use a light color with a slight pattern, but not too much.

Please also ground the entire seating area in an 8x10 or larger rug. You will be amazed how much it anchors the room. You have the basics of a classic, traditional room; I just think some soft pattern and bling and lighting will enliven the entire space.

All of the items I found came from overstock. Good luck! Please post what you decide to do as the room evolves!

Not sure whether this has been already mentioned: did not see it if.. when buying or thinking of buying an old house, check whether it is listed or prelisted as a historical important building - if so there a a million and on different restrictions, which apply for changing, adding or taking away anything - if even allowed, dependent on the area and your local authorities.
Prelisted often means only duties - no rights - no benefits. Listed could mean some benefits with loans and funding, downside is all has to stay within the look an feel the house has, including materials and often inside as well.

I would be wary of a home with new showers. Make sure you check with city hall that they where built with permits.

A client of mine years back had five new showers. FOUR LEAKED

and yes, the long handles look fabulous on black AND white, they're my personal favourite! however you have a bit of a 'period' look here....perhaps they might be too contemporary.

Aha, good eye, katinahat. Yes, I was commenting based on the white upper cabinets, which in my opinion look much better with the stripes. I also like your idea of lower dining room wall in a solid color beadboard, leaving the stripes at the top.
