I like the idea of putting color on the ceiling instead of just white. Also, I believe there are manufactured panels that mimic the look of the first ceiling. Anyone familiar with those? And have you seen them on a ceiling?

Some great ideas except for the fabric ones. To me they just look like dust clouds with the option of a rain of spiders.

Blue Fescue or Elijah Blue grass looks great when first planted but keep in mind they don't live long. Yes you can propagate them, but I planted a bunch of them in my modern garden not even 2 years ago and most have turned an ugly yellow and appear dead now.

I like the look of the twig chandelier, but I it has to be a fire hazard just like Christmas trees are. If people took the time to pay attention to the number of families and children are killed each Christmas due to house fires caused by the Christmas tree catching on fire from the lights they wouldn't put lights on their tree. You just can't put something combustable or flamable next to a heat source, and not expect it to catch on fire! BTW, my husband has been a firefighter for 30 years so I'm very aware of the danger......

hayleydaniels - It doesn't have to be a fire hazard. If one is careful about how far away from the heat source it can be perfectly safe. It also depends on the light source, granted there are no "cool" light bulbs, they all can get pretty hot, but a few inches in some cases are all that are needed. There are those LED "candles" that don't even get warm on the outside of the "candle".

Shakuff, the light fixture does draw the eye upward.
We have a fancy chandelier in our entry that I liked, but it certainly doesn't do the same. Our beautiful high ceilings could do with some highlighting.

Our entry is not finished. On one side is our early 19th century trimeau (mirror surrounded/topped by a painting) and the other is a low bench with great frame and zebra fabric. But it doesn't have enough presence yet.
Would love to add that pond in front. Sigh...
