I love everything, but the lighting in the great room. I would have used something a little more dramatic like Chihuly-style fixtures instead of the pastel globes. However, the rest of the space is breathtaking.

@Pam Wojcik I love your trellises! They are fabulous and I might have to copycat them in my next house!
@quinciettajane I am going to have to look into Escalonia to plant in front of a 6' retaining wall. I've not heard of it before but liked your description.

I did like the sculptural fence, but they weren't kidding when they said EXPENSIVE. Since my new neighbor has a very tall privacy fence -- I don't have to spend the money for one! Fences make good neighbors.

to jillybeanisme ..Thank You! the highest kind of compliment indeed :)
ther is a correction thought...8 ft 4x4s. 5 ft panels. They were so heavy, it took 4 men to carry them. Also, my contractor did a fantastic job getting them vertical and level. It was not easy ! Be prepared. But totally worth it.

Quartz (aka Silestone/Caesarstone) is fabulous and comes in a wide variety of patterns and colors. I had a deep warm gray counter in my last kitchen and loved it. One day a workman left his cordless drill sitting on the counter and it left what appeared to be a bleach mark. My contractor came out with a can of acetone and wiped down the area and the spot magically disappeared. After that, I kept a can of acetone on hand for future use. I'm preparing to remodel the kitchen in a new home and I'm not considering any other countertop.

I have very expensive dishes, that I use daily. I have $200 a glass stem wear. . . I wouldn't consider any kind of rock to chip them on. I have and always will have Formica. . . My counters were installed in 1970 and look wonderful, but am getting ready to change the pattern just for the fun of it, not because they are worn or burned, or scratched. . .

Many years ago someone (cannot remember who) told me to use the little ant bait pod/traps that say "safe to be stored near food" to prevent those dreaded weevils in flour, meal, etc. I have used them for all these years and they seem to work well for preventing the pests. I store my flours, meals, sugars, grits,rice and cooking oil that are opened in plastic canisters on the corner lazysusan in my base cabinets. Just put a trap on each shelf and one on floor of cabinet under the bottom tier. Does anyone else do this? I have enjoyed this thread.

Sorry. Not one thing I liked in this design. Too many different woods were used... + bricks, + tiles, + concrete...too incoherent for me. But, as it's not MY place - enjoy people !

@onthecoast1

Yes, while I love the concept of the built in ceiling net (I REALLY do) I agree it seems to close in the vertical space a bit. But then I told my hubby he'd just end up falling asleep most of the time and clients and or friends visiting would need a special rod to poke and wake him up from underneath! No seriously, that man can nap anywhere, anytime...just recline him enough and rest his shoulders...zzzzzzzzz
