I started my de clutter phase after watching a show on tv. I don't remember the name but it motivated me to start getting rid of stuff. My husband thought I was crazy with the way I attacked my closet and book collection but I felt better! Now I donate "stuff" at least 4times a year. And I totally agree with the no more presents post. We finally have our whole family on board with the idea of a nice dinner out to celebrate instead of birthday or anniversary gifts. Relief on all sides I'm sure. This would not apply to young children of course but for us older folk :) so much easier and much more fun!

Another great place to get rid of things you no longer need without sending them to the landfill is to list them on Freecycle. I think this came up before but thought I'd mention it again in case someone missed it. Freecycle is a great way to help those who need things - people can post a request for something they need, or for something they are offering. I've given away bedskirts, bedding, kitchen items, amenities that I've collected from hotels while traveling (kids love these). I've never asked or received anything from Freecycle - I consider myself fortunate enough to let someone who really needs the items take them - but it's was a great way to give away my extra chairs when moving to someone who needed sturdy ones not held together with duct tape (as she stated in her request) - it's a great feeling knowing someone else can use what you no longer need.

Does anyone have suggestions for books? I tend to write in my books and I don't think library sales, etc. want marked up books.

Sorry it seems you thought that was directed at your comment, I was referring to the general annoyance of people towards kids who are just being kids playing outside. Wasn't really paying attention to timeline.

I never really gave it a thought until I read this article but I have shades of green in every room of my house. Lots of plants too but just touches of green everywhere. Pillows, bowls, vases. Very earthy tones in my home, all the color comes from green accents. Most are subdued with occasional bright jade green/ blue thrown in for a pop of color. I didn't really think about it just picked what I liked and felt comfortable with. Kind of funny that I never noticed it before.

cleo, sort of an 'obvious' but it might look nice to have lamp bases shaped as a circle.... why not?

geejay, If you're craving brighter than 'all the green' I wonder still about bringing a slightly brighter, more striking, version of your colors, but in an area rug, sort of like this [cause there's only pattern at the windows? or maybe a bright bed pillow? ] :
