I grew up playing in two tree houses, each at a different friends house. My sons ended up with a club house it worked much better....placement wise in the yard.

We love our quad (like a tri-level but 4 levels), lots of house with a small footprint and open concept. However, I voted for a single story because that will be the next house we buy.......... for my 83 yr old Mom who will be selling her current home and buying a single story condo (near us) with a first floor laundry after she gets her hip replaced next week.

It will also be the next house we buy for ourselves. After seeing both my parents and my husband's struggle with the steps in their homes and ours, we are hoping the home construction industry seriously considers the largest population (baby boomers!) will buy these homes in droves if they are nicely designed, at least 3 bedrooms and a couple of bathrooms (for visiting kids & grandkids). We won't need to be near schools, we are going to want nice neighborhoods with retail within walking distance, or at most a short drive.

It will be hard to sell my children's "home", where we've lived for nearly 20 years. Not throwing in the towel yet, but seeing first hand the struggles of elderly people in a home with stairs has opened our eyes.

I have had both and hated the two story!!! I have a one story now, and I couldn't be happier! I had tall, vaulted ceilings in the old house, and it was always too hot upstairs and too cold downstairs. I also hated climbing up and down those stairs every day and vacuuming them. This house has a very open floor plan, nice wide hallways, and is plenty big for us.

for me it completely depends on the design of the house and floor plan. We are currently in a 2 storey house we had built to suit our block of land. We did however see some wonderful single storey floor-plans we would have been just as happy with (if not more so) but unfortunately could not be accommodated on our land.
