Victoran, make sure you boost the pots up off the ground with spacers (don't block the drain hole!), or move the pots every season. If the pots are resting on the ground, the tree roots will migrate up through the drain holes and into the pots. I was called out to troubleshoot a container garden that had 1/2-inch tree roots coming up through the bottom. They had been in the same place for a couple of years.
