My interior designer said to hang chandeliers 36" up from the top of the table. That seems perfect and has worked for me for many years. The bottom should be 36" off the table top!

Very nice article!! I have only purchased one home in my life, although I have lived in many. Most of my apartments I had as a young woman on my own were in the old section of Allentown, PA. The big brick row homes, sectioned into apartments. It was amazing! 12' coffered ceilings...wood floors throughout...amazing stained glass. All this enriched me and I suppose was all tucked away in the back of my mind for me.

The day I went house hunting, my Agent stopped in front of the first place. I'm still there almost 7 years later. She has style...she has wavy glass windows...she's got the Craftsman fireplace...she's got working casement windows & dormers! The rain on the metal roof is like a sweet lulaby.

As I began my yard planting & decorating...I realized other neighbors followed suit. Soon, much of our block (even the rental properties) had hanging flower baskets, cute porch furniture...

I have been doing some restoration & she's slowly getting there.

She's not perfect...but she's perfect for me!!

I am currently re-reading the Not So Big House, and now Houzz, with its mysteriously accurate algorithms, has thrown this ideabook up on my page. Curious...

Anyway, very enjoyable reading. Thanks. :)
