That rug is beautiful and would be the guiding force for me in decorating the room. I would pick some of the colors out of the rug for pillows and throws. It would be nice if you could have some built-in bookcases on each side of the fireplace. And, a nice piece of art over the fireplace would be nice.

How much longer will the cicadas be around, Rred? They are truly STRANGE!!! GOOFY&WEIRD. A phenomenon, of sorts. Lovely. Lol! Meant to entertain us, perhaps.
I had wanted to tell you I was astounded at how loud those things are. There have been times when crickets have been deafening in the mountains. It made it too much to sit outside. I wonder about the maestro or the instigator of that chorus. Seems they could be considered either one.
Your dogs are gorgeous. I love their "style". Nice "do", girls. They travel back and forth with you to the lake? Hope your day goes well today.

cicdas 4 more weeks? loud? OMG yes.
Thanks for the dog like! we love them....they are our replacement kids! They travel extremely well in the car. Hardly know they're there. Our previous pair of dogs were hyper Vizslas who woud not calm down in the car...panting nervous wrecks (excited to go)! Obnoxious in the car, but we loved them too.

Wow, the gold looks a lot less greenish in the photo of the view from the living room. No, your choices aren't all wrong. You just had the bad luck to hit on a couple of colors that don't quite work together in the light you have. It's only a matter of considering both natural and artificial lighting, since that's how you and everyone else will see the room at different times. Agree with Groveraxle that the draperies should be hung from rings rather than directly on the rod. I now see how the drapery pattern carries over to the new chair backs, so it's easy to understand why you chose them. I'm still in favor of Rina's dark red for the lower walls, though. I like your dining room art, by the way, at least what I can see of it.

Bought a new curtain so I will post later when it's dark with the light. Which may be the next thing I change.

That rug is beautiful - The fireplace 'steps' seem like a logical place to echo bands in a color from your rug. and the small boxed vertical area of wall where the metal jacks are placed. Tall hallways up the stairs could use another rug (or printed fabric wall tapestry/hanging) the wall behind the lantern - hung on the wall as a color block rather than trying to paint entire walls with no ending points. Or you could paint a 'framed' wall block leaving the current color as a background. Take good photos and make enlarged prints, draw/color the design on it to try it out first. Then go get the small sample sized paints from your favorite DIY store ...

Love your room. The rug is gorgeous and the bench with the striped fabric looks wonderful. Can only see a corner of the painting on the wall but I like what I can see. If you are up to doing a stenciled wall I'd look at Melanie Royals. She did some work in a Marrakesh hotel that could give you some inspiration. I might replace the pillows on the couch with some more colorful and maybe a morroccan pouf with the chair instead of the matching ottoman. Like your valance treatment too. Overall, I think you you have
