"How long should a high quality sofa last given lots and lots of use?"

We bought a sectional made by Smith Brothers of Berne. The frame, springs and foam cushions all have a lifetime warranty. You can look at their website to see how their sofas are made to understand what constitutes a high quality sofa that will last. So much of the furniture sold in the US is very poorly constructed, very often in China. Buyer beware. (I have no connection to Smith Brothers other than being a satisfied customer who is very impressed with their quality.)

I bought an inexpensive sofa ten years ago because I had very limited funds but wanted new and clean. After about three years the cushions looked like saddles, even tho I did maintain them regularly. I went to the fabric store and bought yardage of a cushion wrap which is kind of a thick mesh. I unzipped and removed the cushions and wrapped them and sewed the ends of the mesh closed by hand. When putting back in the cover, wrap them in a large plastic bag and then just pull the bag out when in place. Takes a lot of scrunching to get them back in but it does work. You can also staple the mesh together if you want. Sofa looks great still and is very comfortable. (oh, and I often fall asleep on it)

Hi Ashton,
Need some programming info to make it a space that functions as well as looking good. What's happening in there? How many people are using the space at one time? What are the tech/data needs? (virtual meetings, etc.) How much storage do you need? What type of table top space, seating, "showing off", display, lounging, etc.
You can buy some radical stuff that looks great and end up hating your space if you don't design it for your needs.

Tried for years to have children, expensive medical bills, no responses from adoption agencies. Bought a very attractive white sofa. That did the trick -- two little boys in less than one year.

Apartment 46 for the Home
OMG I love ALL of these! I want to see more pros chime in because we make some pretty awesome mistakes in our own homes. I once moved into a rental and hated all the plastic blinds on the windows. I went out and spent my own money on all new beautiful woven roll up blinds. LOVE! I noticed though, that all the cords were definitely too long. I cut them all to a more manageable length. Um....then I tried to roll the blinds DOWN. The too short cords disappeared up into the blind never to be seen again. My husband came in and asked me why I didn't cut them with the blinds already down. Well, no sh*t Sherlock! There they stayed in their crooked, diagonal, half up/half down state while I 1. Cried and 2. Got Tourette's. I went broke that month replacing my replacement blinds.
