I noticed a lack of storage. I'm sure some things were removed for the photos but I'm curious how some of these glam powder rooms handle the everyday necessities without base cabinetry or shelving units.

Growing up near San Francisco Bay, I never had any problem with pollen (sea breezes, maybe?), but my parents moved to the mountains in northern California and every time I visited them, my nose would get stuffy and I'd start sneezing the minute I got out of the car. I was fine if I stayed indoors, until I went to bed. Couldn't figure it out... Nobody in my family ever had any allergies, so it never occurred to me.

Until one time my mother sweetly informed me how she'd specially re-washed the already clean sheets on my bed so she could hang them outdoors and 'get that fresh outdoor smell into them' that she loved so much. The minute my head hit the pillow my sinuses backed up and I couldn't breathe through my nose. I must have released a cloud of pollen as soon as I moved around in bed. Miserable night. Had to wash the sheets and dry them in the dryer the next day so I could sleep.

Poor old Mom - after she went to special pains to do something special for me. Well, at least she helped me figure out that I had a pollen allergy I never knew I had before.

It always strikes me as ironic that the energy efficient homes like those shown in these photos require much more material and energy capital than the energy consumed by the homes that 95% of Americans live in.

Great article! Please remember that Home Depot and Lowe's sell plants that are NOT bee-friendly, even though they might be labeled as such. Many of the big box retailer's plants contain neonicotinoids - chemicals that are at least partly responsible for colony collapse disorder and found in products like Roundup and in the DNA of many genetically modified plants. We can tell these stores - with our dollars - that we care about bees!

I agree with ^^^ that!
Also, make a pledge to NOT buy anything chemical for your lawn and garden if at all possible and if you're already doing that.... Visit with your neighbors and ask them to make a vow to do the same:) it's a good way to meet your neighbors AND save the birds, bees and butterflys and improve the overall health of the planet:)
