Wood is too much work and gets worn. In my remodel I used porcelain tiles that look like wood. Easy maintenance and looks better than wood.

I think the most practical heating for a bedroom is a reverse cycle air con, but personally I have neither. If it's cold, then a nice snuggle under the blankets is what I enjoy. A fireplace in the living or family room - now that's a different story.

We have a very large wood burning fireplace in the corner of our master bedroom and we love it. It is so cozy and relaxing to sit by the fireplace on a cold winter's eve with a cup of hot chocolate and a good read.
In our previous home, we had a gas log fireplace in the master. It was nice but the wood burning is much, much, much better :)

If it is ugly and outdated definitely paint it....Has only been painted 3 months and took me 5 years to finally take the plunge....so glad we finally painted it!!!!! I LOVE this room now!!!!!
I had tried every kind of decorating options, painted, window treatments; but the "beastie" was still there. We do not plan on moving any time soon either, have been here 19 years; so that was another reason to go ahead with the paint job....enjoy the room and make it what we want.
I voted yes.

I agree with previous comments regarding the condition of the brick. I also think it matters the age of the brick. There is a huge difference between a brick wall or fireplace in a historic home and that which was applied as a veneer to a modern home.

We started selling this one a few months ago and enjoy working from it at the office. After using this one I couldn't imagine ever going back to a standard non adjustable desk.

"Las Brisas" pillow is first in a series of West Coast inspired art. 22" x 22" hand painted on canvas with black linen piping. Doesn't get much better than to get cozy on a fun piece of original ( and washable!) piece of art! Second in the series below: "The Barcelona"

Tough choice between The Canadian Cottage and Culshaw Bell Kitchenette because both are so charming and white is a great choice for a small space.

River Road Cottage for me. Windows (airy) and books. Love it. I would suffocate in the NYC one - too many things around in such a small space.

I like 19HR for open storage and Pacific Avenue for closed storage. Eclectic nicely offers two work areas. Not as tiny, but we were happy to meet this customer's wish for an under the stairs desk.
