scoutstella, that's probably what I should do, although most kits don't come with the pressure regulator, timer, or filter. All essential to really use the system effectively. Those items will at least double if not triple your initial investment.

Well, we had a "professional" landscape gardener put our drip hoses in and they fell apart by the second year, now she want to just put in a overground hose with a sprinkler, I feel like she doesn't know what she doing--you guys here make it seem so much simpler than she has, should I get rid of her?

had marked this page for future use and finally built a box this past weekend! we cut it down to about 4x4 instead of 8x4 and built it in our soon to bed deck (removed an old rotting screen porch which used to be on the framework). We also connected the top boards at 45 degree angles instead of just butted up against each other, and we've left the bench edge off for now - may add it later but like the symmetry we have now. Next up is finishing the deck and touching up the paint where the screen porch was. We love it and can't wait to plant in it!

@Marilyn - the article you reference states that even the manufacturers of pressure treated wood products specifically advise against using PT products in edible gardens. Your consumption of foods grown in chemically tainted soils is at your own risk. There are many appropriate construction & landscape applications for PT wood products, but the consensus among professional gardeners is that they don't belong in vegetable gardens. Best of luck.

Where did you get the lids? Can you tell us what brand, or where we could find such things, or what traits to look for? Sounds like a terrific idea: Please provide more info so we can try it, too.

Ocean Gypsy...all 8 venomous snakes. Perhaps there's a snake barrier that could be put around the base of the tree? Like a moat of hot lava???

Those of us who are asthmatic cannot be around a wood burning or charcoal burning BBQ...can't breathe.
Even gas ones are tough but better.
When neighbors turn on the grill, I go inside and close the windows and doors till they are finished.
Some places with bad smog will not allow wood burning of any kind.
As someone else mentioned, these gorgeous BBQ's are for the rich or people who are outside most of the year. Do think of clean up and replacement of appliances as time goes on. Free standing BBQ is much easier to replace than one set in a beautiful brick surround, Build surround so you can replace BBQ if necessary.
