Bad color combos is right! I have so many colors in my kitchen I can't seem to make it all work.
New two toned cabinets - dark walnut on bases and warmer light uppers - beautiful leathered black granite counters and a backsplash of all those tones. The biggest problem is the walls. I can't seem to get a good neutral which is warm enough for my taste. I love reds and oranges but the light versions are pinkish. Any suggestions are welcome!

First, never use a carpet cleaner on upholstery. In your case, either the vomit absorbed into the fabric or the cleaner. In either case they caused an over wetting in that area. Try taking a white cotton cloth, wet it with just warm water and squeeze excess water out. Next wipe over the area that has the ring, getting it fairly wet, then take the damp cloth and try wipping the wet area toward the outside and as it goes more outside taper the level of moisture so it is less wet as you get further from the ring. When you first wet it, it will appear darker, after apx. 5-10 minutes you may not be able to even see the ring. Then take a hair drier. Dry the entire wet area in a circular motion from the outside toward the inside. If you aren't sucessful, a good upholstery cleaner should be able to resolve this for you by cleaning the entire surface evenly. Hope this helps.

I have a HUGE kitchen in a home built 20 yrs ago. I used all Delft imported tiles, and thick light off white / grey grout. Sealed properly. Never have had a grout stain, or any issues. Tile is very durable, gives the old world character, looks great. Do not understand why no one wants tile anymore and cry's at grout. It can be very easy to install, clean and use and very durable over the years if done properly. And I should also mention I use the heck out of this kitchen with lots of messes and every kind of food, etc imaginable has been on this tile and grout. It is so easy to clean as well; a swipe of a damp sponge, a bit of elbow work if you leave the stuff sitting to dry for a while and it looks great

Wanted to add.... I like to just "regrout" the offending surface. I give the surface a good cleaning, but not obsessive, and then mix up grout and reapply. The results look like new, of course.

With voids filled by old grout this process goes very fast and is easy to clean up. Yes seal. But sealers only help so much. I have not tried the "stain-proof" grouts. Would like to hear someone else opinion.

I use vinegar mixed with my shampoo every couple of months to clean out the hair gel build up. (I have to use a lot of hair gel to keep it from frizzing out.) I know that its time when my scalp starts getting a little itchy. I rinse it, then wash again & use conditioner. I still smell faintly of vinegar for a few days, but I don't think other people can smell it that much. Just be careful not to get it in your eyes. I accidentally did that once....there is no pain like that, not even toothpaste in the eye!

Does anyone know if it would work to get rid of eczema on skin? My son has it on the backs of his arms. I thought if it worked on dermatitis it might work on eczema.

Have you ever boiled a pan or coffee pot dry and ended up with water marks you can't remove? How about glassware or vintage glass items with hard water stains? Vinegar and baking soda takes it right off! Depending on the size of what you're trying to clean, a stove top Pyrex kettle that holds 1.5 quarts of water takes 1 cup of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Clean with this solution over the sink, it bubbles up.

ChickieD, you can place a bid with the contingency that your bid only stands if the home passes inspection; that way, your bid is no longer binding if something is wrong that the seller is not willing to negotiate on. It's nuts to pay for an inspection on every home you're considering bidding on.

Then they call you up to tell them what is wrong so you can fix it after they buy it. Doing things right is not easy or fast. Try to not buy a pre-owned home less then ten years old - that is when the real troubles begin to be come "obvious".

We had Cambria Parys installed almost two years ago. I was away when it was installed (my husband was home). When I came home I IMMEDIATELY noticed on the island (3 feet 10inches by 8 feet), an area (2 feet by 2 feet) that looked like something had been spilled on it. I called the installer, he came out and instantly noticed the problem. He took pictures and said he would call Cambria. Cambria refused to do anything about it - they stated it a "natural" occurrence (since quartz countertops are fabricated I was shocked by their response). Fortunately, the installer went to his supplier who said they would warranty it. They reordered 2 new slabs which took 1 year to be delivered (Cambria stated they were building a new factory which is why it took so long...). Long story short - I LOVE my quartz counter! I use windex to clean it and it sparkles!

A top quality brush (Purdy, Wooster) will allow you to get a straight line; you do need a "steady" hand, but the brushes are key. Also, not putting too much paint on the brush is critical. In my opinion Frog Tape is the best - no paint gets under tape.. again, not having too much paint on the brush when painting over the tape is the key to success. I haven't used the brush cover, but routinely wrap stretch tite around the brush to save it for the next day. It works very well. Take the author's advice and buy top quality products -brushes, rollers, paint. It makes a big difference.

Although black is a common color for beds, when one would expect to see red and they see black instead, the designers goal of creating visually unexpected and therefore interesting artistic settings may be achieved. Such was the case when we painted a red Qing Dynasty canopy bed black so that we could use it in a child's bedroom. The children love the bed and the room, and the parents love showing their friends. I appreciate that some readers will think that we are crazy for painting antiques - but to us the joy we get from actually using the bed far outweighs any lost value which may occur because we changed the original color of the piece. We simply appreciate the piece that much more!

Will we use the same contractor - yes, he's easy enough to get along with and the work he does is alright. (plus everything is already ordered).
Would I recommend him to friends - no. Because he is rather disorganised and the work is alright.
I'm prepared to put up with him (after all, we're kinda disorganised too) but don't feel he's good enough to take the responsibility of recommending him to someone I know.
Some contractors I will sing their praises loud and clear, others just don't get me that excited.

We use either pocket doors or surface mounted doors on exposed tracks, depending on the application. I love the look of the exposed track hardware, but you need clear wall space to the side of the door opening in order to make it work. The door then becomes a design feature. A pocket door essentially disappears when open, so you can create a greater flow of space.
