I had the same problem with a painting I purchased for a large wall. Even though the painting was large it looked like a post card on the wall. I painted a large square on the wall and hung the painting in the center. My husband and granddaughter think it looks like a gallery or museum presentation. I get a lot of compliments on it.

Good news is it's just ART so hang it they you think is best and if it doesn't feel right move it!

Every day! I keep a pretty wicker laundry basket in the bottom of the closet. Every time I try something on that doesn't fit, is stained or torn, or that I know I won't like the next 3 times I try it on again ;), it goes into the basket. When the basket is full (or whenever I get notices about charity pick-ups in my area), I fill a trash bag and donate the clothes. Works like a charm!

I also keep items that are questionable (to keep or give away) toward the front of the closet with the hangers turned backward. (Turning them backward didn't work for me alone because they were still buried between other items I wore more often, so I brought them all to the front.) If I don't wear them when they're front-and-center (and I'm bypassing them to find other favorites), after about 3 months or a season change, they go in the basket as well.

I do the same thing with shoes and jewelry, so that items I pick up and put down again because I don't like the way they look or feel will go into the donation pile as well. I do it with kitchen implements, books, magazines, paperwork, etc. - every time I'm looking for something particular is a great opportunity to "weed" out unnecessary items. I donate or use Freecycle-type groups at least once or more per month.

Get Organized!
Speaking as a Professional Organizer I usually purge Once or twice a year. I use the hanger trick that tells me what I haven't worn. Effortless purging It what I call it. Once my daughter & I make our piles we load up my SUV & go search for the homeless & give them all the warm winter wear like Coats, Sweaters, Tennis Shoes & such to get them through the cold season. I then donate whats left.
