The design of this house has it all, the decorations are more than I would want but this is certainly a great city house with all the right things for surviving in a war zone like Chicago

It looks like everyone loves this house. It has such whimsical details. I love the brick color, the windows, the art. In fact I love everything about this house, inside and out. I wish I had such decorating talent.

wheelchairkitty: You didn't mention that, although the house is in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, it's several blocks away from the actual park. Sometimes writers take liberties, as in “The glass on the outer wall is opaque up to the owner’s shoulders, so he can look out over Lincoln Park in the morning as he showers...” or the "Lower Downtown" designation.

I love the way the black looks as an accent, however if you are using it, it will tend to make the rest of the room look super crowded and busy if you don't really pare down the extras . works well with a minimalist approach.

@baretta11 - Here's the photo of (1) of (3) set of stairs. Stairs and railings are painted chocolate - walls are Glidden - quiet rain (gray), and carpet is smoke gray. I hope this might help you see how it can work.

@smillerholmes from Baretta 11, the whole look is stunning. I can see the gray in the runner but I have to say that the walls look white but I understand it's a very light gray.
I think it really is outstanding, sooo elegant without being overdone.
I'm such a long way from painting at the moment, as we're only up to the framing stage but I simply can't wait to be able to start putting some colour schemes together.
I also must say, that the edging on the runner is beautiful and looks like it really makes the eye focus on where to place your feet whilst walking up the stairs.
Absolutely 1st class, well done.
Cheers,
Barbara

If they are down then the only option he should probably suggest is that he adds down to them to make them fill out the cushions properly when the job is finished. Sometimes down deteriorates over the years and gets a lot less springy and just gets cruddy and if you upholster, the finished cushion just looks bad without some amendment. if you don't want it then he should leave it the way you want it but then you should not complain when they don't look so good when you get it back.

No one wraps down with poly. I would get some references before I let him touch my stuff.
