Wanted to chime in on the bidet discussion a few comments up: After our trip to Japan, American bathroom hygiene practices began to seem almost barbaric. We invested in a TOTO washlet bidet seat for our toilet, and it was the best $650 we've ever spent. You can get them on Amazon, they are fairly simple to install, and they will change your life. So far, most of our guests have been too timid to use the bidet function, but the adventurous ones become converts!

Go to paragraph 'Cost if Modified' and find link for Rev-A-Shelf. All the products and instructions for DIY. NO professional carpenter needed. Need special attachment, sold separately, if you would like to attach the sliding drawer to your door front.

I imagine myself cooking and agree with people who don't want to bend down to find their spices on the fly. I use and love a very simple and inexpensive solution: Spice Stack. Labels on the outside let you find what you need right away. You can pull the drawer out just enough to get the jar, or pull it all the way out like in this photo. I also like that Penzey's carries smaller containers for those spices that I don't use as often. I am renovating my kitchen, so am exploring other ideas. I like the ones that are recessed in the walls, and the ones in the drawers seem convenient, too. Another idea I like and don't see here is the Alton Brown method. He has metal tins with clear lids that stick to a magnetic surface or something on the back of the cabinet door.

I wouldn't put a corbel next to a stovetop, due to grease.

Rather gamble with having the window not symmetrical to the gable than have to relocate an opening that size with all the loads bearing from the roof. Not to mention exterior finish included. Hey you could buy a 3rd fridge.

Pabst, you pointed out something that I thought only happened to me (my ankle always seems to get it)... I've subconsciously disliked rockers for that reason. Plus I get motion sick in them to boot. Thank you for bringing this to light. Great funny comment too.

My gramma gave my family a stationary rocker that has moving parts that 'rock' and I had to carry it downstairs for a relative the other day. I was extra careful as the moving parts could have snapped on my hand when lifting it. (which they have done in past) I personally think this rocker is a nightmare design... The footstool even rocks on the stationary base too. Sigh...

Shanghai Green Antiques
Although black is a common color for beds, when one would expect to see red and they see black instead, the designers goal of creating visually unexpected and therefore interesting artistic settings may be achieved. Such was the case when we painted a red Qing Dynasty canopy bed black so that we could use it in a child's bedroom. The children love the bed and the room, and the parents love showing their friends. I appreciate that some readers will think that we are crazy for painting antiques - but to us the joy we get from actually using the bed far outweighs any lost value which may occur because we changed the original color of the piece. We simply appreciate the piece that much more!
