Why is it that current furniture is so shoddy? It looks nice in the showroom, but it embarrasses the dump in no time. Planned obsolescence is the scourge of our time. I replaced my 20 year old washer and dryer with a "high efficiency" set and rue the day. Clean clothes are a thing of the past. I could fill this page with regret over "nice" things I've bought that now infuriate me. Where is pride of workmanship? Where is solid wood? Where is real value? And while I'm on this rant, why is this world so cruel? People treat each other like savages. They treat animals worse. Where is our collective heart?

I love change and I love color, but I allowed my husband to talk me into a Swedish comfort-thing style for our family room, and it is hideous! It's true I chose a loud color, thinking it would make it less Birkenstock-y, but instead it just made it more noticeable and uuu-gly. Luckily it appears that although the damm thing was expensive, the fabric doesn't wear well AT ALL. so it will only be with us for a couple of years!

Think twice before buying one of those E^^rnes brand things that are good for your back - they're bad for your eyes...

This article has perfect timing. We moved last week and downsized to half the space. The movers said "lady, this couch will not fit in your basement and plop they dropped it in my main room". Cry, cry. I have to live with it, but I think if I get a rug, different colors, it may be o.k. It is a very cozy couch with a bed in it. I need to work with it. Yup. Its brown and its big!

Good to know I'm breaking the habit on many items however I must admit we probably have enough liquor and beer to open a bar during the zombie apocalypse. I'd love to have a wet bar sans miles of mirrors.

Oh and I don't care, I'll never have anything leopard in the house.

And here I thought my children were the only ones who chewed on furniture ;-) Mine liked leather belts too! LOVE the shelf. Very simple, easy to make and looks nice, thank you!

very cool - but careful with too much weight on top as this structure might collapse with no supporting brackets on the bottom. Most tables like this will have additional support to keep the table from leaning over to the right or left - could easily add these with cheap $2 furring strips to the inside back of the piece, maybe 6" down from the top, and another strip 6" up from the bottom. (could even spray paint those gold as well)
