I think sclawson has a good point, although I might not say "OCD" because I once made a joke and really offended a woman who informed me that she was the mother of a man with OCD and it is a serious affliction. What's the big deal about unsightly air conditioners? In hot climates, most people have them and are very grateful for the relief they give from the heat. Maybe we should make a shrine to them! AC units are not a reflection of poor taste or an unimaginative decorating sense any more than having a toilet in the bathroom is. Why do the people in the article have a bug up their bu** about it?

Just working in the yard and finished the path but first had to hide the A/C unit with steel fencing. You can see it in the background. On the other side of the house we used the same fencing to cover the pool equipment. Its not bad to look at and its open for ventilation and matches other "industrial type" finishes in the yard.
