As discussed, your porch was once open. If you want to add on, do it from the back side of the house.

I would leave it white because of the window over it and its trim make that area virtually one piece. If you feel you must paint it. I would choose the gray shutter color. On this particular home, I don't think I would do anything bright.

Instead, add 2 large black pots to the porch with large plants with great foliage and colorful flowers such as geraniums. Also change out the trees that are too close to the house for new flowering shrubs. I also don't see any light fixtures on the porch..suggest large black lanterns on both sides of the door.

I actually think your room is lovely, but I would think that you could just add some more pops of color throughout and utilize the blue you already have as well as bring in some gold with your throw pillows, mantel decor, and mirror. Maybe you could even put a band on your existing draperies at the bottom that added some color?!?! But, I'm no expert, so I'm anxious to see what the pros say :)

What if you do a wainscoting on the entire wall that created a panel over the attic entrance in which you used concealed hinges and a push latch? Here's a mockup of what I'm suggesting......For economy you could just utilize your existing drywall for the panels except where the access door is, in which you could use a thin veneer.

Sorry for not responding sooner....was out of town with no internet access. Will address suggestions mentioned over the weekend, but for now, here's a couple of things that popped out from the suggestions....

1) Wall color must stay. It obviously isn't the best choice with these sofas but it's the staple color throughout our main areas of the house, which, as stated, was just remodeled.

2) Window has to stay. It's new as well (for the person who suggested a tv). We have another family room with a HUGE t.v. so this is more of the formal room.

3) Sofas will likely be replaced at some point. I could move one out, if needed. It's just what I have to work with right now.

Love the ideas given! Just need to mull them over in my mind :)

Here are additional photos for those that asked.

The chest that is now in there DOES NOT have to stay. I just moved an armoire out of another room and this is the bottom piece of it that.

I have a company that can make the nine foot natural woven shade for you. Also, there is Comfortex which sells sheer horizontal shades that are the same as hunter Douglas silhouettes.

I think a fabric relaxed roman shade (3) would be really pretty .
