Those parquet floors are gorgeous! It's interesting to me that they don't need permits to extend the house. Here in the USA, you would need permits or you would not be able to sell your house very easily. And if you did, you would be fined and possibly have to tear down the addition prior to the sale.

In my homes, some windows have cornices, some have curtains, some have nothing -- ALL get cleaned.

I really liked the "quirky fireplace" in the bathroom along with the shower head! But I have to end with a repetitive "those parquet floors are gorgeous!"

Adore every element! The architecture is flawless and I love the style and features yet the odd burst of colour wouldn't go astray when it comes to my personal taste.

The Roadster Blue is very similar to the Sherwin Williams Pool House blue we painted our bathroom with. I wasn't so sure about it at first but my wife told me to trust her. Glad I did because it looks great.

Going by the quilt cover colors, chose the green for the wall with aqua and orange accents. The wall paint is called "Mojito" by Behr, which also happens to be my favorite drink!

I have recently purchased one of their books 'Home by Novogratz'. Love, love, love it - brimming with creative ideas as you would expect :) The only thing I wish was included was 'bigger spaces'. A lot of them were condos, apartments, basements or whatever. Not really any big houses. That's why I'm glad of this article - really shows the full spectrum of their wonderful style & with 7 kids to boot! Am from Australia & I think Americans are definitely more adventurous with design.

I agree with the over-use of granite and tile. When we remodeled our kitchen we used Cambria quartz as the backsplash. It's pricier than tile but makes a distinct statement. And it is much easier to wipe down than tile and grout.

In Canada, lead-based paints are also prohibited. That aside, I prefer my tile backsplash. It adds texture to the room and is easy to clean, which I do about once every 6 months. No big deal. To each their own.

Scott, I'm in the kitchen and bath business....a client just sent me a link to this kitchen; we are doing a project with some steel involved and she like it. Just saw you name on the photo credits. It's a small (web based) world we live in. Nice job as always.

I'd love to have you come to St. Louis and do a live workshop photographing kitchens!

How do you insulate original brick walls in these old buildings? I want to do a loft apt in building built in 1890's, but do not want to put drywall over original plaster and brick walls!

So, in this case the walls are two bricks thick with an air pocket in between so insulating was not a concern. Passive solar also helps keep heat or cool inside/out based on the time of year. Brick is quite insulating but you may want to speak to someone who specializes in insulation to determine your best course of action!
