The term really relates to elements of style, not what an ACTUAL French country kitchen would look like. I mean, we also call kitchens Victorian, Craftsman, etc. That doesn't mean we have wood burning stoves or gas light fixtures or Gustave Stickley furniture in them. It's a concept, borrowed from many facets of design - not a replication.
