Here's one against that idea . stone does not wash or antique like brick. It looks high end now and it will look bad after. This is the one thing that is real character that adds to your room . . when you look at the pottery barn catalog, look closely . . part of the reason you are drawn to the rooms is the terrific and interesting architecture - beams, stone, great doors and windows. Here, you have that . . you just need to know how to compliment it -

You are overreacting to an empty space and what the stone wall needs most is lighting (see the difference in the photo where the flash lit it up and the second picture?) Let's get some wash lights on it - you can do that with an electrician and can lights, or you can buy some battery powered art lights and mount them on the (they come in orb) ceiling at five intervals to wash down the face of the stone. This is a high end feature - the gold tones echo your cabinets next door and the wood tone, the wall color works okay but there are wall colors that would do even more for this room and stone if you were prepared for a neutral in a warm soft tone. . .

Now, take a little touch of gray into your decor . . lets say it is mostly neutral butter tones with blue green . . .use nickel toned lamps, drapery hardware, add some mercury glass elements, use one pillow fabric with butter and gray . .. voila! your room looks like a million bucks!

I think the cabinets are the least of your concern. Updated appliances, new countertops/backsplash will transform it.

Thank you all! I posted this awhile back in April. Not sure why it popped up now. Anyway we ended up completely renovating the kitchen. We retained the island but opened up the space visually with light maple cabinets and quartz countertops. Here's a pic from after the renovation.

I think you can make a change without doing anything to cabinets. They have a bit of a rustic look to them. As in this photo:

Change counters and backsplash and update lighting, get new appliances. I would remove the one lower cabinet to the right of the fridge though to allow for a bigger fridge and right now fridge looks to be right up against door

The best noise barrier invented to man is a water feature with a fall . . . consider a tabletop version or integrating in a water wall feature into the screen wall .. .

Too funny how the same idea can be viewed with different perspectives. We bought our summer home about 12 years ago and there in the master bedroom was a claw foot tub, and a sink. It was the one thing about the place I never liked, and frankly everyone that has seen it for the first time has this blank look on their face. I am finally in the process of turning it into a separate ensuite bathroom.

btw… that outlet should not be there. At the very least turn it into a GFI outlet.

I think I may have answered incorrectly if I said the walls here are linen. I believe this room follows the bone white walls with linen trim. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the nice comments.

We typically use either:

Both companies offer beautiful hardware for cabinetry. Good luck.
