When I look over the pictures I've saved to ideabooks, the common denominator is always texture and patterns. Perhaps some patterned cushions for the chair seats and bench, or some wooden shades (bamboo or other roll up) or curtains (cafe style perhaps). A runner along the table might be another way to introduce a pattern or texture as well. Love the earthy tones you're already working with. Red is good for a dining area. Perhaps you could find a pattern that picks up some of the other colors in the adjacent carpet. Good luck!

What about making a window seat beneath the windows, sliding the table up to it and moving the high-backed chairs to the other side of the table? Then you could lose the bench without losing any seating and enjoy the view outside while eating.
