Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked all over for Volga Blue honed granite in smaller size tiles, but it doesn't seem to exist. Guess we'll look for some other color pattern to make it work.

2-1/4" flooring is commonly referred to as "strip flooring", regardless of how it's being presented. It's definitely a more "traditional" approach.
Plank flooring is basically anything from 3" wide & up... and any single width or combo of widths can be used without too much fear of it appearing overly traditional.
Color, specie, & style will be more important in that regard... (IMHO)

The one thing to keep in mind with the wider planking is that it's much more likely to have cupping issues where it comes up off the floor than narrower planks.

If you have a few spare minutes, google your flooring with the word 'reviews' to see if there are any particular problems with it.
