Dutch Kitchen center, I like built-ins they look uniform rather alot of pieces of mis matched furniture. Choosing the right pieces in the room can really help with organization and decorating.

Edited book collection? What is this? Books are the best decorating tool in the world: all rooms look better with books in them. There is no such thing as too many books. And I pity anyone who has books and doesn't read them.

Rose Friton! Utterly amazing! I was reading your nice comment when there was a knock on my door??? There it was, a package from Nancy Kimball at The Kimball store in Northeast Harbor ME!!! My designer goes sailing 'down Maine' every summer and spotted terry cloth finger tip towels there and knew I was trying to find some! WHY have they stopped making them??? So I Called and finally after talking to the 5th person, was able to order 8 of them for my brand new bathroom! But that was about a month ago and I'd given up! They are not cheap but are beautiful! I LOVE Maine but only got there once, sailing of course! I love my SS large sink from Ferguson so much and it is great for MY OWN LOBSTER POT! When I go to Pensacola (often, only 45 miles from Farihope) the #3 fish market in the US is there and they always have a coupleof huge tanks fullof very fresh Maine lobsters at very decent prices! I figure if I'd gotten a porcelain sink I'd soon drop a cast iron skillet in it...but be sure to get a SS one with rounded corners! I am NOT a clean freak but the square corners are much less sanitary! Even though I removed an outside wall to add 4 ft to the size of my kitchen I was still 'space-challenged' so a drawer DW would have not been easy to fit in. Just being one person now I don't need to open/close mine that often! Thanks for your comment! Ummmm...Maine!!! Margery Griffith

I paid $175 for a Kohler faucet that normally is $800, got a deal when I asked for any discontinued finishes that they are clearing out. It's a unique bronze/brass finish and a great faucet.

The super neat offices in designer rooms always make me snicker. Where are the papers? The rubber bands? The paper clips? The filing cabinet? Printer paper? Replacement ink cartridges? The goose neck lamp? Who actually works at those shiny, uncluttered desks?

Thank you, everyone, for these great lists! I'm going to not only use them myself but for others as gift ideas. I will even go so far as to print them for our children, young adults, who are setting up their household. If there's something on the list they know they would never use, they can always strike through it, but the lists will be a great starting point. As many have, I have put some of these things in place already but others ....well, I can't wait to!
I do keep a notebook for assorted occasion cards and lots of thank you cards. There's just something extra special about getting a card in the mail. Again, thank you everyone for the many great ideas!

Someone asked for a printable version. I've copied most of this, dropped a few items I don't need, added a few that I do, and saved the result as a .JPG image. There's even a little space at the end to write in anything I missed. And it's all on one page. Hope you'll find it useful.

Marjorie Bull, some dowel rods and some inexpensive café curtain rod brackets will serve your purpose quite well and look charming. I still see the small sort of chrome and the swing out towel rods at my hardware store available though.
